What is a Relaxing Massage?
We all have different ways to relax in our free time and a relaxing massage can be just as varied. So when someone asks for a relaxing massage, we always have to check what they mean by this. Experience has taught us that people often fall into one of two categories when they want a relaxing massage. The first may well surprise you!
Relaxing Massage - A Tale of Two Very Different Definitions
It's no secret that innocent words become code for something sexual in situations when using the sexual word is problematic. For example, 'fun' becomes code for 'sex' on dating apps and even in song lyrics. Many massage directories won't allow explicitly sexual listings so advertisers offering erotic massage have to get creative and use codewords. The term 'happy ending' has become too well known to use nowadays. So in many cases, 'relaxing massage' has taken its place.
However, not everyone is aware of this and a large number of people still use the term in a much more innocent manner. For many, a relaxing massage uses lighter, less intense pressure allowing the recipient to relax during the treatment. For these folk, a relaxing massage is an enjoyable experience but never sexual.
From a masseur's perspective, it becomes highly problematic when someone requests a 'relaxing massage' given these two wildly different meanings. For this reason, we would always encourage clients to use language that's direct and clear when contacting their chosen masseur. There is no need to use code in a private conversation!
What a Relaxing Massage Means to Us
The main aim of every style of massage is to encourage overly tense muscles to relax. Therefore any and every massage should be relaxing. However, if we had to define what a relaxing massage means to us, we would say its a massage that feels good to receive but is non-sexual. Most likely pressure would be kept at an easily tolerated level with very little active participation required from the recipient. Our Swedish or Signature massage would be the best match for most people.
What Does a Relaxing Massage Mean to You?
Given everyone has a different idea of what a relaxing massage is, it’s best to be a little more specific should you request one. Clear communication is always key to getting what you want in a massage…just as it is in everyday life.
