Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage, also known as Classic or Holistic massage, is one of the most popular and widely used styles of bodywork. In fact, you'll see it offered at almost every spa in the world.
A Swedish massage usually starts with the recipient lying prone (face down) on the massage table. The therapist begins by applying oil or lotion to a specific area of the body in long, gliding, rhythmic strokes. This can have a very calming effect and prepares the body for what comes next.
Pressure is then gradually increased and each muscle group is manipulated by hand using a variety of different techniques. These can include kneading, squeezing, rubbing, stretching and percussive strokes. Combining slow and soothing movements with more vigorous techniques can help relax tired, tight muscles and also improve circulation.
Each area of the body is treated in turn before moving on to the next until the full body has been covered. Certain areas can be omitted or focused on by request. Pressure can be adjusted to suit the individual but normally falls in the light to medium range.
Swedish massage is a more gentle form of therapy making for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
